Favorites: May 2017

So many of my favorite things in May had a lot to do with what kept me company on my travels. I've spent so much time the past few weeks in airports and hotels, and bopping around from place to event to outing. (For an introvert like me, that's exhausting.)

This month's list is a combination of beauty products that kept me glowing during Asian Pacific American Heritage Month events, to entertainment-related things that helped me get through all those travel delays...

1. BECCA X Chrissy Teigen Glow Face Palette by BECCA

I was dying to get my hands on this palette when I saw Chrissy Teigen was collaborating with BECCA, which has been my new favorite brand for highlighters this year. I traveled with this BECCA x Chrissy palette for my APAHM events at the end of May and – not only did it make my makeup collection so much more compact – it was the best accessory for every outfit. Everything is subtle, yet dewy, and not too pigmented either (which adds to that subtlety).

2. Super Aqua Max Fresh Watery Cream by Nature Republic

I'm a sucker for good packaging, and Korean beauty products always get me there. What I like about this moisturizer is that the fragrance doesn't smack you in the face. It feels – and smells – like a refreshing splash of water and it's kept my skin feeling soft and hydrated (and boy has my skin been dehydrated lately...).

3. Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King

If you don't have Netflix, get it now just to watch this. Hasan Minhaj's hour-long special from Davis, CA (Mondavi Center, what up!) is funny, poignant, honest, and pure in its storytelling. His recollections of growing up in an immigrant household are familiar and touching; his early encounters with racism are brutal, yet told with a wink to those of us who've ever been there too. I found myself both laughing out loud and tearing up within minutes of each other. It's also presented beautifully – the timing, the graphics, the choreography and use of stage, the camerawork. I watched it at the start of a 10-hour plane ride and honestly just wanted to watch it again and again and again

4. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season 3

I wasn't too into season 2, but something about season 3 just hooked me from the start in a way I couldn't get into season 2. Slate sums up how I felt about it pretty accurately: "Season 3 is so dense with jokes that it’s hard to watch too many episodes in one sitting. Also, it’s glorious."

Also, Daveed Diggs is a delight.

5. Harry Styles - Harry Styles

This album. I don't even know where to start with how much I love this album, but start with "Sweet Creature" and then keep falling down the rabbit hole.

6. Toby

I've tried a lot of tab managers, but Toby has been the best one so far. Toby lets me save a group of tabs that can be organized and named into spaces. It's easily customizable, non-intrusive, and functions exactly how I would hope a tab manager would. Just go to the site and watch the video: I was sold on it pretty quickly after that.
