Favorites: April 2017

I was so busy last month preparing for this month (I also just launched a podcast with Charles: more about it here) that I don't have many new new things to tell you about, but I have some oldies – but goodies – to gush about. Also, I'm adding a list at the end of what's been on repeat on my Spotify (both new releases and old favorites):

1. Too Faced Sweet Peach Eye Shadow Collection Palette

OK, this one's new(ish): I managed to snag the Too Faced reward from Sephora in February and it finally came in the mail in April. I'm a huge fan of Too Faced palettes, and was slightly disappointed by their White Chocolate Chip release. What's nice about the Peach palette is that it's got a variety of warmer spring tones that's been missing from their chocolate series. It also smells like peaches, which is my second favorite scent!

2. Sakura Bath Bomb by Lush

I normally don't like super floral-y scents, but the Sakura bath bomb is pretty subtle. It's also very pretty.

3. Overcast

My new go-to app for listening to podcasts is definitely Overcast. I'll admit, I've just been using the standard Podcast app on my iPhone, but it was starting to become a bit tedious to handle (also, it crashed a lot). Overcast makes it easy to customize your subscription settings for each podcast, and it downloads episodes faster than other apps I've tried.

4. Great Big Story

This is the last on my list even though it's actually my favorite thing I've discovered this year, because otherwise this blog post would just turn into a list of my favorite Great Big Story videos. If you aren't familiar with CNN's Great Big Story, open a new tab and check out this video. Then look at this one, and this one, and then this one too.

On Facebook, their tag line is: "Humans are capable of incredible things and we're here to tell their stories." It's like this lovely corner of the internet where goodness radiates. Every video I've seen is not only beautifully-produced (and it's all original content, which I'm a huge fan of and don't think there's enough of in the world), and their story selection is A+.

I could go on and on, but the videos truly sell themselves. I just signed up for their email list today, which is maybe the first time since I signed up for Lucky Peach emails a few years ago that I've willingly subscribed to a news/media org's mailing list. If you need a pick-me-up, or just something to put a smile on your face to start the day, these videos are the answer.

What's on repeat on my Spotify:
  • "Nothing Without You" - Emma Blackery (pretty excited for the new EP release)
  • "Hard Times" - Paramore (new album in TWO DAYS!)
  • "Banner (Acoustic)" - LIGHTS
  • "I Can Do Better Than That" - Anna Kendrick (from The Last Five Years movie soundtrack)
  • "Astonishing" - Sutton Foster (from Little Women: The Musical)
