Favorites: June 2020
Tuesday, June 30, 2020 / 11:52 PMBut here we are at the end of June, and I'm still coming to you live from my couch. These days when people ask me how I am, I'm not shy to admit that I have no idea how to answer that! Some days, I feel great; other days (most days), I feel anxious. Despite all that, I am still fully in favor of people wearing masks and social distancing.
This month's favorites post also includes some things I need to catch you up on that I've been loving since I'm still getting back into writing these lists. You've got time to read it, right? ;)
1. Queer Eye season 5 (Netflix)
I binged this season so quickly. Every episode made me emotional (to be honest, I can't tell if it's because I'm just really emotional these days) and it was the perfect heart-warming way to start the month. One of the things I've always appreciated about Queer Eye is the pacing in each episode: every minute is spent getting to know the "hero" and peeling back layers that didn't immediately present itself at the top. As a viewer, it keeps me engaged.
Since I haven't been doing my makeup daily, one way I've kept occupied and creative (and relaxed!) has been to do my nails. I've been a fan of Holo Taco since the brand launched a year ago – Cristine is also just enormously likable – and I couldn't resist her Rainbow Collection launch. The full collection features 7 linear holographic polishes and I can confirm that each color is gorgeous.
3. Green Inspired Lined Journal Hardcover Geo Burst - Teal & Mint (from Target)
Kristen bought me this journal for Christmas (along with Tam) and it's become my go-to notebook for my freelance work and to-do lists. The spine doesn't break when it lays flat, and it's easy to carry around. It also has 228 pages, so it'll last me through the end of quarantine, I assume.
I bought a pair of these leggings at the end of last year, and they've become part of my go-to rotation of outfits during quarantine. They're comfortable and durable, and I can't be convinced that there's a better pair of pants to wear while hanging out in my apartment for the fourth month straight.
More to watch:
- The Politician season 2 (Netflix)
- Brittany Runs a Marathon (Amazon) – This was one of the films I missed out on seeing at Sundance, and I finally watched it last weekend. It's such a delight.
- A Simple Favor – I put off watching this because I thought it was scary and, if you know me, you know I'm a giant scaredy cat. But I like the three main players in the film and every streaming platform was telling me I should watch it. I also noticed it was consistently categorized as a comedy, which I assumed was a mistake because of the assumption that a Paul Feig film was automatically a comedy... So I gave it a go, and it's truly a wild film that was not what I expected, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
- Community – I can't believe I didn't tell you all to watch this last month, but one of the best things I've done during quarantine has been to re-watch Community. So... go watch Community. I've been flipping on random episodes from time-to-time just to make me smile, and it never disappoints.
More to listen to:
- Nancy – Unfortunately, Nancy (one of my favorite podcasts) was not renewed by WNYC. They posted their last episode on Monday and I'm sad. If you haven't listened to it, there are 3 years of episodes just waiting for you.
- Fine Line (Harry Styles) – I liked the album the first time I listened through when it was released in December, but then I hadn't revisited it. For some reason, this past month, I started listening to it again and it's just been on repeat since.
